Are you a dancer who tried yoga but found it moved too slowly? Or are you a yogi who has always had a bit of interest in dance? Either way, this is the class for you! Experience a mix of Vinyasa yoga and Horton modern dance technique, presented by Autumn in a way accessible to adults of all levels. Experience in yoga or dance is helpful, but not required. Ages 16 and up. (No yoga mat needed; be prepared to move barefoot.) FREE!

Autumn Mist Belk earned her B.A. in dance and studio art from the University of Alabama and her M.F.A. in dance choreography from the University of Maryland. Currently, Autumn is on faculty (teaching dance, yoga and gymnastics) at NC State University and is the artistic director of the multimedia dance group Code f.a.d. Company. She has studied Lester Horton dance technique at The Ailey School in New York, completing the school’s pedagogy training in beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. Autumn is also a certified yoga teacher and PaddleYoga instructor; she teaches studio classes at Bliss Body Yoga and organizes PaddleYoga retreats through her company YogaMist.

Living History Demonstrations

Pottery Demonstration: Sid Luck, 5th generation potter will be in the museum lobby turning pottery. Luck’s Ware continues the ancient art of wheel-thrown pottery near Seagrove, the “Pottery Capitol” of North Carolina. His pottery is observed in the shape of many old time functional stoneware pieces such as candle holders, churns, jugs, pitchers, and teapots. Visitors can sit at the wheel and try their hand at turning alongside Mr. Luck.
Weaving Demonstration: Local weavers will be demonstrating and discussing weaving and textiles in the 18th century as well as spinning on a wheel. Visitors will get the opportunity to weave on a table loom or try their hand at spinning.
Lace Tatting Demonstrations: The Tri-Tatters are a group in and around central North Carolina who meet once a month to tat & talk. Lace tatting is a technique dating back to the early 19th century of crafting lace with knots and loops.
Crafts & Games: Mordecai Historic Park, once site of the largest plantation in Wake County, will be discussing antebellum Raleigh as well as leading kids in early 1800s crafts and games.

The Nickel Shakespeare Girls can perform a speech from any of Shakespeare’s plays, often while flipping upside-down!

Partners Against the Trafficking of Humans stage three short plays about the very real problem of human trafficking in America in the alleys and courtyards along Fayetteville St. (contains adult themes).

Seed Art Share’s original new work begins inside the Raleigh City Museum, erupts into a fight, and spills out into the street!

Students will learn pop video-style choreography after a vigorous warm-up, body isolation work, and stretching. Class is geared toward beginner and intermediate levels, but ALL dancers will feel comfortable in this dance-party style class. Ages 12 and up (including adults).
