Everyone agreed we like the Call for Talent!
Ideas discussed:
-Venues:
1) choose one venue from each “borough”
2)Lincoln theatre-big talent; Foreign Exchange, justice
3) Pour House-free venue; inflowential; some acts exclusively deal with & would like to stay here
4) Main Stage-Artimis Pyle (from Lynard Skynard)?
5) Southland Ballroom-free venue; give approx. 200 tix away, give bands everything else they collect
6) Raleigh Amphitheatre? Schedule is not full, we’d offer marketing; checking into it
7) Kings-Indie
Berkeley-maybe a fee; great sound
9) Dive Bar-metal; book their own
Smaller venues, local acts
10) Slims-booking their own, we’ll promote
11) Deep south-booking their own, we’ll promote
DJs-Black flower, five star, white collar, big easy, oxford, the hive……we’ll give them a list of DJ applications & they can choose from those
Smaller acts-Artisan, Woodys, Vintage, buku,
TOP PICKS for musicSPARK to book: Lincoln theatre, pour house, kings, southland, Berkeley, Deep South
Ideas from SPARK mixer:
-music panel on myriad of artists/producers/writers,etc. (NC songwriters coop., music makers relief fund)
-make “movie” of artists from different genres creating a song
-Sponsors/fundraising:
1) Raleigh rickshaw
2)NC songwriters coop.-IN!
3) music makers relief fund (we throw them a fundraiser w/musicspark taking half proceeds)
4) guitar center
5) 2112
6)harrys guitars
7) sam ashe
8)general assembly chorus
-cover fundraiser sometime in august; choose bands from first applicants to set venue & market; advertise for “more to come,” announce festival line-up the night of the fundraiser (@ kings july 29)
-LeeAnn is waiting to hear back about fundraiser letter; will forward to everyone once she receives
-random:
-possibility of barbershop quartets on corners?
-next meeting:
-ideas need to be in writing; if in email, new string name; or bring hard copy to meeting

MusicSpark Notes: Humble Pie 8/11/10
Mary Ellis has a new updated print out of the Music Lineup spreadsheet.
*On Thursday and Sunday, some venues have only single confirmed acts. Consolidation of these events needs to be addressed.
* King’s Saturday lineup only has two bands. Adding The New Euphemism to this line up. Need to select a 4th band to ensure coverage.
* Details to cover for finalizing confirmation of various venues:
Blue Bar– need to make sure they have contact information for their bands
Buku– need to finalize their confirmation.
Deep South– need to finalize confirmation. Need to verify their acceptance of acts booked before promotional push.
The Hive/ Busy Bee– finalize confirmation
King’s– check in with them
Mosaic– need clarification as to what is actually happening there. No musicSPARK acts currently booked there.
Two T’s– make sure they have contact information for their bands.
White Collar– CircusSpark and Burlesque show happening there.
*Sponsorship Updates: Chico Spoke with Katrina @ Raleigh Times– need to send a food contribution proposal for Hargett St. stage.
Need to organize Sponsorship information to ensure acknowledgement of donors:
Current list:
Cherry Huffman– $250
PBR– $150
Music on the Porch– Stage for Hargett St. area
WKNC– Donor Announcements
Dos Tequitos– food
Harry’s Guitars– Backline Amps
The Shed– Posters
Megan Henderson– Promotional writing, Match Books, Fish Fry design
New Romance– 2 fundraisers– Fish Fry @ Landmark, Disco Inferno
Joe Van Gogh
Others not listed (Mary has full list)
*Logistics– Have set up and tear down commitment from Music on the Porch for Hargett St. stage. Have asked for tents for soundbooth and stage. We will be using a secure Pod for behind the stage– from MusicSpark budget. Need to coordinate the use of electricity for Hargett St. stage.
* Promotions– need to start Promoting the fundraiser events– Fish Fry in 18 days.
Donor announcement has been submitted to WKNC– Ryan to read?
Megan has pulled Language from SPARKcon and musicSPARK pages to create a news release. Can’t list every band in the news release– need to determine which bands to highlight in these materials. Main goal to direct people to the website– Website needs to be updated.
Poster idea–Mary Ellis to request tweak in design.
One week from now target date to begin promotions.
General MusicSpark posters to list bands in Alphabetical Order. Venue specific posters to list them by order of appearance.
Question: Are any of the venues going to be put off by promoting in advance of their official sanction of the booking? Need to determine which ones might, and make sure all communication is handled.
Facebook: MusicSpark facebook promotions should concentrate on promoting the whole event, with promoting the individual events being a secondary concern (at least on Facebook). Think of the Facebook angle as more of a reminder.
Printable Versions of the Schedule should be readily available on the website– using our current spreadsheet as a template.
iPhone App will be in place, based on Google Calendar, to display events.
Next meeting @ Landmark on Thurs. the 19th at 7:00.
