fashionSPARK has expanded from one show to three. Each year fashionSPARK fans expect a whirlwind show of creativity and extraordinary Triangle fashion during SPARKcon, Raleigh’s grassroots “creative potluck” convention. However, due to increasing popularity and demand, fashionSPARK organizers have decided to host two additional fashion shows to highlight local clothing and jewelry designers. Each of the new shows promises a completely unique experience.

The first show will be held Thursday, September 8th at SPY Raleigh, a night club like no other with experienced staff, luxurious surroundings and exceptional service. The show begins at 8 pm. Admission is $5.00. Participating designers include Double Entendre, S. Tector Metals and Soulcialite Studios. Come to Spy Raleigh at 330 West Davie Street for an amazing show and stay for a night of dancing at Raleigh’s premier night club.

The second show will be held Tuesday, September 13th at The Union Raleigh

, a laid back and truly fun atmosphere. The show begins at 8 pm. Admission is $5.00. Participating designers include DRC ApeParel, Ltd., FYSH Clothing and Emma Gray Designs. Enjoy the show, stay for a beer from a selection of delicious brews and hang out on the patio of The Union Raleigh, 327 West Davie Street, Suite 114.

fashionSPARK & Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham Provide Exciting Experiential Education for Students

August 23, 2011 – Raleigh, NC –  fashionSPARK volunteers have always been the heart of fashionSPARK’s success. This year, student involvement has become key in the planning and execution of events. The Art Institute Raleigh-Durham and fashionSPARK organizers have formed a partnership that provides Event Promotion students with real-world experiential education as well as steps up the quality of the experience audiences can expect of fashionSPARK.

Approximately 3 – 5 AI students are participating in each of the following fashionSPARK 2011 events:

RICA Fundraiser, Friday, July 29th
Flanders Kick-Off Event, Thursday, August 25th
Mini Show at Spy, Thursday, September 8th
Mini Show at The Union, Tuesday, September 13th

The Sept 16th fashionSPARK fashion show, which features fourteen of the Triangle’s most talented designers, will provide the widest array of opportunities for volunteers of all the fashionSPARK events. Some students will be paired with designers and will act as their assistants for the evening. Other students will be assisting stage production, organize models and designers as well as provide crowd assistance.

Jessica Palmer is an AI Fashion Instructor as well as Faculty Advisor for “Moda Guild,” AI’s fashion student organization. She has been instrumental in coordinating with fashionSPARK to provide volunteer opportunities for her students. Palmer states, “Putting on an event is complex and multifaceted. The students really get hands on, in the field experience.”

fashionSPARK, a division of SPARKcon, is Raleigh’s grassroots “creative potluck” convention featuring creative themes such as art, music, film, fashion and technology. Sponsored by the Visual Arts Exchange, this non-profit event has grown each year since its inception and is a popular outlet for designers and fans alike. fashionSPARK organizer Angel Feimster-Montoya can be reached at HoneySuite@gmail.com.
