poetrySPARK Call For Poems Deadline is August 19, 2011
RALEIGH, NC, August 5, 2011—poetrySPARK, the poetic component to Raleigh’s annual SPARKcon festival every September, released their call for poems this week. SPARKcon is a 4-day creative festival held in downtown Raleigh September 15-18, 2011.
Poetry in the Raleigh-Durham Area
The deadline for poetry submissions for September 2011′s poetrySPARK events is Friday, August 19th at midnight. Poets must complete an application on the SPARKcon website in order to submit poems for consideration. There are no submission fees. Submitted poems will be reviewed by a panel of judges and poets will be selected for a featured reader evening on Saturday during the festival. Poets are required to submit their name, pen name (if they use one), email address, website (if available), a 100-word bio and agree to the SPARKcon terms listed on the application form. www.sparkcon.com/sparks/poetryspark/call-for-talent/
Poetry Events in NC
Volunteers are welcome to show their interest via the application form also. Planning meetings of the organizing committee are held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays from 6PM-8PM at Benelux Cafe in Raleigh. Other components of poetrySPARK included Spark After Dark, an erotic poetry event, a Poetry Slam on the main stage and an open mic night where a poet will be voted Best of the poetrySPARK Open Mic. This year’s poetrySPARK events will also feature the 2nd Annual Poetry on Demand Booth where poems will be written in under three minutes based on spontaneous public prompts.
