SPARKcon Green Efforts!
In effort to help create a more sustainable SPARKcon event, organizers have been working this year to offer the several “green” services onsite at SPARKcon this year. The following activities will be taking place at the event during Saturday and Sunday’s festivities:
- Water bottle filling stations – With the help of the Raleigh Jaycees and area restaurants, a water bottle filling station will be available on all four blocks of the main event space for those who want to help reduce plastic bottle waste. So bring your favorite water bottle to the event or purchase a collectible SPARKcon bike water bottle for $2.
- Bike valet parking – Ride your bike to the event and don’t worry about finding a bike rack. Pull up to the front of Alexander Square Parking Deck and volunteers will valet your bike for you. Operating from 10am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday, the services are free of charge. Organizers also encourage participants to use area transit providers including TTA, the R-line, CAT, and the WolfLine.
- Onsite recycling and composting – SPARKcon, in cooperation with the City of Raleigh, are providing recycling and composting bins throughout the main event area for attendees to use during the weekend’s events. Organizers ask attendees be conscious of their trash and reduce, reuse, and recycle whenever possible. McGill Environmental Services will be providing the composting services.
SPARKcon would like to thank Progress Energy for being a proud sponsor of this year’s greenSPARK activities.
